Anything you create in one of these applications is automatically saved to Google Drive. Using Google’s Office applications makes it easy to collaborate with other users on documents, presentations and spreadsheets. In addition, Google Drive has been integrated with Gmail (Google’s email service) making it even easier to manage and send files over the internet. Although it was initially limited to documents, the service has since evolved into a flexible cloud storage service which can handle any type of file. Google Docs and all the other Office applications still exist and are an integral part of Google Drive. However, it was only for text documents and spreadsheets back then rather than an independent cloud storage. However, Plex’s cloud-based media server does support on-demand transcoding, so videos will automatically be optimized for a user’s device and bandwidth requirements on the fly.Google’s storage service has been around since 2006. Automatic photo uploads, for instance, aren’t supported yet, and support for Plex’s recently-launched DVR also isn’t included. Plex Cloud doesn’t support all of the functionality of a full-featured Plex server yet.
Users who want access to the Plex Cloud beta do need to have a Plex Pass subscription, which costs around $40 a year. The Plex team has since been working to resolve some issues with its Amazon Drive integration, and is now getting ready to invite more users to the beta next week to put the new cloud storage options to test, according to a spokesperson. The Los Gatos, Calif.-based startup initially only invited a limited number of users to the beta test of Plex Cloud. Plex took a first step beyond this limitation when it introduced a beta for its cloud media server in September, which allowed users to store all of their media on Amazon’s Cloud Drive.
